Rabat: Two people were killed and 51 injured on Saturday when fans staged a mass brawl at a match between two Casablanca football clubs Raja de Casablanca and Chabab Rif Al Hoceima.

Local TV showed gangs of rival fans from the same club, Raja, engaging in running battles, throwing flares and ripping up parts of the Stade Mohammed V stadium.

Authorities said 11 cars parked on the streets of the city have been pelted with stones, according to media reports.

Security forces eventually quelled the violence and the injured were evacuated to hospital, local authorities said.

Prosecutors have opened an enquiry into the incident and media reported that police have arrested 10 people.

Raja de Casablanca beat Chabab Rif Al Hoceima 2-1.
