DETROIT: Honda Motor Co is recalling about 225,300 SUVs and minivans in the United States and Canada to replace a part that if not operating could allow the driver to shift out of park without depressing the brake pedal.

The Japanese automaker said in the United States it is recalling about 128,000 Honda CR-V SUVs and 59,000 Honda Odyssey minivans from the 2012 and 2013 model years, and 17,500 Acura RDX SUVs from the 2013 model year to replace a part of the brake shift interlock system.

In Canada, the recall affects about 14,000 CR-Vs, 4,500 Odysseys and 2,300 RDXs. Honda said no customer complaints, accidents or injuries have been reported related to the issue, which was discovered during an internal investigation.

Schlumberger Q1 net profit dips

PARIS: The oil services group Schlumberger said yesterday its first quarter net profit slid 3.2 percent to $1.25bn (¤955m) due to a slowdown in its US activities due to a glut in shale gas.

The US-French company said adjusted net earnings was $1.01 versus $1.08 in the previous quarter, and $0.96 in the first quarter of 2012. Analysts had been expecting earnings of $0.99 per share.

Revenue came in at $10.67bn for January through March, down from $11.17bn in the previous quarter but up from $9.92bn in the first quarter of 2012. The company said growth was strongest in the Middle East and Asia, in particular in key markets such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Australia and China.
