DOHA: Diligent high school and university students can now apply for a study scholarship in the Maersk Oil High Achievers Scholarship Programme. The programme, which targets Qataris studying the higher education disciplines of Engineering, Law and Business Administration, was established in support of the company’s commitment to education and capacity building in Qatar.
Scholarships are awarded to Qatari students based on their high school or university grade point average, area of study and the reputation of their prospective university, in addition to internal Maersk Oil interviews and tests. Applications for the scholarships are taken throughout the year.
Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad Al-Thani, Maersk Oil Qatar’s deputy managing director, said: “We are committed to making a real and meaningful contribution to Qatar through programmes like the Maersk Oil High Achievers Scholarship. The programme is our way of acknowledging the country’s most committed Qatari students and of ensuring they are given the opportunity to attend some of the world’s best universities. As a company that is recognised as specialists in complex oilfields like Al Shaheen, offshore Qatar, these scholarships are helping us to attract the best and brightest but more importantly they are also helping to build capacity in the country.”
Maryam Al Abdallah, a student at Texas A&M University is one of the recipients of the Maersk Oil High Achievers Scholarship. She said: “The scholarship programme encouraged me not only to pursue a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering in Texas A&M but I am also looking forward to pursuing a master’s degree in the same, and to become one of the few female Qatari Engineers in this field”.
