Total Research Centre Qatar (TRC-Q) and Qatar Energy and Environment Research Institute (QEERI) recently signed an agreement to collaborate on a research project on produced water.
The agreement was signed by Director of TRC-Q, Dr Philippe Julien, and Director of QEERI, Dr Mohammad Khaleel. The project, which aims at analysing trace elements in water which is produced during oil and gas extraction, is part of the efforts made by the two companies to support water security.
“We are proud to partner with QEERI for this research,” said Dr Philippe Julien, Director of TRC-Q. “This is a great example of capacity building thanks to the collaboration between the academic medium and the oil and gas industry, with Qatar Foundation being one of the drivers of this project.”
Mohamed Khaleel, Director of QEERI commented: “QEERI has acquired and developed high selectivity and sensitivity analytical instruments to provide detailed understanding of water chemistry including trace elements. This understanding will assist Total and QEERI in figuring out the most suitable technologies for treating water produced during oil and gas extraction. We are very happy to work with Total who shows on daily basis a deep commitment to our environment and a strong desire for capacity building.”
