DOHA: About 6,000 expatriates are expected to benefit on a daily basis from the free Iftar parties being organised by the Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
The mass Iftars will be held at specially erected tents in areas dominated by expatriate workers. They will cater to mainly four Asian expatriate communities- Indians, Sri Lankans, Pakistanis and Nepalese, a RAF official has disclosed.
RAF has also tied up with a number of companies to distribute food packets to some 46,000 workers during the holy month. The organization has identified eight locations for distributing the aid. RAF has already gave out 1,400 food packets to low-income families ahead of Ramadan.
Dr Mohammed Salah Ibrahim, executive director of RAF, said in a press conference that the Iftar programme this year will benefit more number of people. Each tent will host 200 to 700 people.
“ The aim of all our Ramadan projects is to foster brotherhood and cooperation between citizens and expatriates and support all the needy people in the society,” said Salah Ibrahim.
He said RAF had signed agreements with a number of companies who will be supporting the project. The companies include Qatar Airways, Amwaj, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy among others.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has intensified inspections at eateries and food outlets to ensure that they meet the health requirements. The inspections will particularly focus on outlets that are being issued temporary licenses to prepare and serve Kabab and other traditional items like Samosa, Kataif and Kinafa outside their premises. The different municipalities have received a number of applications seeking such temporary licences, a local Arabic daily has reported.
There will be strict monitoring to ensure that such facilities do not occupy the roads and streets, to avoid crowding and traffic jams.
