Tacoma, United States--Americans Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson were sharing the lead during the second round of the US Open on Friday, as Tiger Woods bade goodbye to the tournament.

Johnson had been overnight co-leader with Henrik Stenson after a pair of 65s Thursday.

But he was soon overtaken by Ryder Cup standout Reed who had birdies at the second and fourth holes.

Johnson then birdied the seventh to negate the bogey he took at the third and join Reed on six under.

In the clubhouse, Masters champion Jordan Spieth was at five under 135 after a 67, with South African Branden Grace a further stroke back after a 67.

Four players were in on 137 - Joost Luiten, Tony Finau, Daniel Summerhays and Ben Martin.

World number one Rory McIlroy was making no progress from the two over mark he started the day on as he played the seventh.

Woods, meanwhile, added a 76 to his opening 80 and at 16 over par he was on his way home after another disastrous tournament.
