The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani with the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah at the opening session of the first annual meeting of heads of Qatari diplomatic, consular and representative missions, at Sheraton Doha Hotel yesterday.
Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday praised efforts of Qatari diplomats abroad and the role of diplomatic corps in enhancing relations and cooperation between the State and world countries in various fields.
This came as the Emir patronised the opening of the first annual meeting of heads of Qatari diplomatic, consular and representative missions, at Sheraton Doha Hotel.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah were present.
Addressing the opening session, the Emir stressed continued protection and care of Qatar’s citizens abroad and the need to remove all obstacles faced by them to meet their needs.
The Emir also wished Qatar’s representatives every success in their assignments.
Dr Al Attiyah, in his address, referred to modernisation and development taking place in Qatar in various fields and highlighted the need to cope with regional and international developments.
He said the prestigious status enjoyed by Qatar at local, regional and international levels puts us all at a difficult test, with heavy responsibility that requires us to move forward and further improve performance.
He said the meeting is a tribute to the activation of the role of Qatar’s diplomatic missions to carry out their duties and responsibilities in accordance with the leadership’s aspirations and ambitions to further develop and modernise the ministry’s work through discussion of ways to promote and activate the diplomatic work to keep pace with the era of innovation.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the heads of diplomatic missions to meet their peers and officials in various government bodies to coordinate work and remove any obstacles that may hinder Qatar’s interests, Dr Al Attiyah said.
The conference aims to strengthen the ministry’s role in promoting its tasks in line with Qatar’s foreign policy and upgrade it to the levels that meet the aspirations of the state and efforts to promote international relations by developing modern diplomatic means.
Such methods should provide Qatar with means of dealing with challenges and changes taking place within the international community in a manner that preserves national interests and strengthen interaction and coordination between the ministry and its diplomatic, consular and representation missions.
