Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) has officially announced the second edition of the Qatar Classic Chess Cup, set to take place from September 7 to 13 at the Qatar Training Center.
The tournament is open exclusively to Qatari players, with separate categories for men and women.
International Master Hussein Aziz will headline the men’s competition, joined by top national players including Khaled Al-Jumaat, Irfan Mohammed, Ibrahim Al-Janahi, Fahad Al-Mansouri, Abdulaziz Al-Mahasneh, Turki Al-Kuwari, Mohammed Al-Qassabi, Hamad Al-Kuwari and Saif Ahmed.
In the women’s category, the lineup features Rawda and Walian Al-Qassabi, Fatima and Asma Al-Hammadi, and Aisha and Ghada Al-Khulaifi.
QCA President Mohammed Al-Mudahka confirmed that all preparations are complete for the event, which has seen strong interest from local players.
“This tournament is a key step in promoting chess across the country and identifying top talent to represent Qatar in future regional and international competitions,” he said.
The Federation has officially added the Qatar Classic Chess Cup to its annual competition calendar, aligning with its strategic goal of strengthening the local chess scene and developing future national team members.
