Doha: The Ministry of Higher Education in Egypt has extended the date of registration for Qatari students until the end of September.

The move is to provide more opportunities for Qatari students in Egypt.

The ministry said that the number of Qatari students in Egypt increased this year, many of whom have registered for the 2013-14 academic year.

The online registration for the under-graduate students started on September 15 and will end on September 30. Students will have three days after registration to change the courses that they want to study in the universities. Students will be given preliminary acceptance after the online registration, but they will have to submit the documents to the university in person to complete the registration process, the ministry said.

Certificates and other relevant documents would have to be attested by the Egyptian embassy. For post-graduate students, the date of submission of documents has been extended till the end of March 2014. The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has said that reports about the SEC transferring Qatari students to different universities in the wake of unrest in Egypt are not true.

“We said that we take such an action if there was a necessity to do so, which applies to all Qatari students who are studying abroad. The Qatari students in Egypt are continuing as per their schedules,” an official from SEC told an Arab daily.
