DOHA: At least 400 students have benefited from Qatar University scholarships to study different disciplines for Fall 2014, officials have said.
Classes at the university started on Sunday last week, reported local Arabic daily Al Sharq.
“While the vast majority of academic scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and scholarly achievement, Qatar University also provides other scholarships that also consider financial need,” the paper noted.
Scholarships at the university cover the cost of tuition while the benefits of some scholarships may also include free accommodation in university dormitories, transportation to and from the university and an air ticket every year to the home country for students who are not residents of Qatar. The student pays the penalties due in case he/she drops courses or withdraws from the semester.
Only first-time undergraduate students and students who transfer from other universities to Qatar University are eligible for these scholarships.
