New York: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met Secretary-General of the United Nations H E Antonio Guterres at UN headquarters in New York yesterday.
They discussed a range of regional and international developments, at the forefront of which is the situation in the Middle East. They also discussed cooperation and relations between Qatar and the UN. In this regard, the Secretary-General praised Qatar’s efforts in humanitarian solidarity with the peoples affected by natural disasters, as well as Qatar's support for the United Nations and its various agencies.
The meeting addressed the topics included in the agenda of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. H H the Amir also met President of the 78th session of United Nations General Assembly H E Dennis Francis at UN yesterday.
The Amir congratulated Francis on assuming the presidency of the current session of the assembly, wishing him success in his duties.
The UNGA President expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Amir for the support provided by Qatar to the international organisation, especially to the humanitarian and relief projects in various parts of the world.
They also discussed the latest regional and international developments, in addition to a number of topics of common interest, especially those on the agenda of the 78th session.
The two meetings were also attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Chief of the Amiri Diwan H E Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations H E Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, and Ambassador of Qatar to the US H E Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani.
