DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is working on roads that will serve 5,700 residential units in different locations across Doha with an investment of QR1.5bn, Al Rayya newspaper reported yesterday.
The Director of road projects and infrastructure in Ashghal, Saud Ali Altamimi, said that the company has plans to build roads in several areas before distributing the lands for the mentioned residential units.
The roads in Rawdat Alhamama and Alkhaysa will serve 4,000 residential units, while those in Rawdat Aljedaym in Bani Hajr, Aba Alheran, South Dehel and Um Lakhba, will serve 1,700 residential units.
The construction plan will be conducted according to the schedule set in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (Baladiya). Altamimi added that the country is witnessing numerous development projects and many road projects are not finished yet due to technical reasons. He also informed that Ashgal is signing a contract with an experienced international company for high standard infrastructure works, including roads and sewage.
On the other hand, there are over 200 projects which cover different areas that will be accomplished within a period of five to seven years.
The country has been divided into five zones according to the sewage network. The delays in the road constructions have to do with other partners such as Qtel and Kahrama.
Altamimi admitted that citizens are annoyed by the delays but he added that Ashghal is doing their best to finish the work on time.
“We are working on two types of roads, temporary and permanent, and we give priority to areas that are highly populated and near the main networks. We are ready to accept recommendations from the CMC members and citizens”, he concluded.
