DOHA: A Class IX student of the Birla Public School was killed in a car accident near Al Shamal on Friday. Three others, including his parents, were injured.
Adarsh Kalyanaraman
(pictured) was the only child of Krishnamurthy Kalyanaraman and Nithya Kalyanaraman, both residents of Qatar, sources close to the family said yesterday.
The incident happened around 1pm when the family was reportedly on a leisure trip. A colleague of the boy’s father was at the wheel at the time of the crash. No other vehicle was involved in the mishap, sources said.
The cause of the accident could not be known yesterday. The father was in the front seat while the mother and the boy, seated in the rear, were reportedly thrown out of the vehicle by the impact. The boy suffered severe head injuries which apparently led to his death, it has been learnt. The mother also sustained serious injuries to her ribs.
All the four were rushed to Al Khor hospital. The father and his colleague were discharged later, but the mother remains hospitalised. She has not been told about the death of her son, according to sources.
Krishnamurthy has been working with a private company — Venture Gulf Group — and Nithya is an employee of Qatar Airways. The family, from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has been in Qatar for about eight years. “Adarsh joined Birla Public School in March 2010. He was a quiet, studious boy. He was also active in extra-curricular activities,” said a statement issued by the Indian school yesterday.
The police is investigating the incident, sources said.
