DOHA: Qatar’s former prime minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani is being considered as a candidate to replace Ban Ki-moon as Secretary-General of the United Nations, British newspaper The Telegraph reported yesterday.
Ban will step down in 2016 at the end of his second five-year term as Secretary General. Sheikh Hamad was prime minister from 2007 to 2013 and simultaneously foreign minister, a post he had held from 1992 until
last year.
