Doha: A delegation of 10 French businesses visited the Al Wakrah Stadium, one of the venues that will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
The delegation praised the design and the work being done on the stadium, set to have a capacity of 40,000. The venue is likely to host some of the group stage matches and the final 16.
The 29-member delegation comprised of different sectors such as sports equipment, sustainability, media technology and pyrotechnics witnessed first-hand the progress of the rapidly advancing substructure works at the stadium. They were given a presentation by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Al Wakrah Project Manager Eng. Thani Al Zarraa and taken on a site tour.
Al Zaraa said that Al Wakrah Stadium project team always looked forward to meet with international delegations. He added that interacting with them open up new frontiers of collaboration, opportunities and knowledge transfer.
The stadium’s design is inspired by the traditional dhow boats used by pearl divers from the region. Upon completion, the future home of Al Wakrah Sports Club will be surrounded by a legacy precinct of around 560,000 square meters including a new sports centre and community hub.
