Doha: Qatar Vanimal Pravasi Forum (QVPF), a socio-cultural organisation of expatriates from the southern Indian state of Kerala, recently organised Soccer Fiesta 2022 at Al Jazeera Academy.
More than 300 community members attended the event in support of the countdown to the much-awaited FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In a spectacular ceremony, Abdussamad KC, who recently completed the full distance at the IRONMAN Italy, inaugurated the event. Abdul Azeez Vallil, Qatar Indian Football Association advisory board member, was the guest of honour. QVPF General Secretary Subair KK welcomed the gathering, while President Shammas Kalathil presided over the programme.
In a penalty shootout, eight teams competed against each other. Each team was named and arranged according to their favourite teams playing in the World Cup. In the final round, Uruguay clinched the title in a nail-biting 3-2 win over Belgium. Safin Riyas of team Belgium emerged as the best performer.
The junior and women members of the forum took part in a live quiz and bucket goal challenge.
