The project includes a one-day educational session, a ‘Master Class’ seminar, on COP18/CMP8 given by a report-writer from IISD’s Earth Negotiations Bulletin. The class will give a full background on COP conferences.

Topics include: The science behind the climate change negotiations, the background to the process, the important meetings and agreements, the composition and functions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the participating bodies, important collaborations, the current status of the negotiating process, potential challenges for Doha, expected outcomes, the historic significance of COP18.

The session will take place at 9am in HBKU Student Centre cinema at Education City, and it will be open to all those who are interested in environmental issues and global policy discussions. This event is also an opportunity to potentially meet members of local organisations focused on environmental issues and to learn how to get involved with the environmental movement. Participation is free. Those interested have been asked to confirm their participation by email at outreach@cop18.qa
