DOHA: Several ambassadors, including the US and German envoys, have joined Qatari Businesswomen Association (QBWA) as honorary members, as part of efforts of the association to enhance economic cooperation between Qatar and some of its major trading partners.
In a statement, QBWA announced that it had received positive response to its invitation to lady ambassadors to join the association.
The ambassadors of the US, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Georgia, Sweden and Argentina have joined the business representative body and attended a private lunch QBWA hosted to welcome them in an effort to expand its international relations network and due to the envoys’ key role in enhancing economic cooperation between their countries and Qatar.
The moves comes within the framework of organisational and strategy development work the association is doing to activate plans and launching initiatives.
Aisha Alfardan, Vice-Chairwoman, QBWA, said: “The wonderful response from lady ambassadors reflects their vision and desire to take part in the community they are living in and contribute to women empowerment and the development of Qatar’s economy and build effective and positive knowledge sharing and exchange of expertise.
“We consider their membership an added value and a further step towards achieving our objectives which have become closer and clearer than ever before.
“We are aware of the busy schedules of our honorary members, and will work to make their membership a mutually positive and beneficial partnership without putting additional burden on them.
“We are sure that this will open new doors and generate more opportunities for all of us,” Alfardan added.
The honorary membership is valid for the duration of the ambassadors’ tenure in Qatar.
According to the statement, the fourth quarter of the year is expected to be very active as QBWA seeks to launch events and workshops, including a monthly business-to-business meeting to enhance exchanges between members, the Annual Networking Dinner, training workshops for members, and the 5th edition of Qatar International Businesswomen Forum slated for next month.
