DOHA: The US embassy and the US Department of Commerce, with support from American Institute of Architects, organised an executive-led Architecture Services Trade Mission to Qatar. The visit ended yesterday.
The mission aimed to introduce US firms to the expanding and diversifying Qatari market as Qatar continues to develop new infrastructure projects.
The mission had the opportunity to meet and develop strong working relationships with locally based architects, developers, and government officials.
US firms with expertise in planning and development, port re-development, airport and transportation infrastructure architecture, healthcare facility design, sports, entertainment and educational facility architecture, visited many Qatari buildings and participated in networking events to showcase the best in American architectural services.
“The mission represents another opportunity to expand the reach of architectural talent around the globe,” said 2015 AIA President-elect Elizabeth Chu Richter, FAIA. Qatar’s pace of development and rising international prominence is presenting new opportunities.
“US design firms are world leaders with capabilities and experience, and we welcome the opportunity to form new relationships with our Qatari partners,” said US Ambassador Dana Shell Smith.
Smith and Richter welcomed the mission to a reception at the ambassador’s residence on November 18. It featured guests from the public and private sectors, government, and arts community and a special performance by Dominick Farinacci and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha.
