London:  Jaap Stam warned his Reading side not to get carried away after they went third in the English Championship with a 3-0 win at home to Burton on Saturday.

This was the Royals fourth straight win, a run where they have scored nine goals and conceded none.

Only the top two sides at the end of the season are guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier League and this latest victory left Reading just four points behind second-placed Brighton.

"Yes, it's a lovely position to be in," said former Dutch international Stam. "It's good to win games and it's good to get points because there are a lot of games to be played in this league this season.

"Hopefully we can stay up there, but we're not aiming for that third or fourth spot yet. We're not focused on getting into a certain position in the table.

"We just want to do well, we want to perform. Then towards the end of the season, maybe we can then be realistic about looking at where we can end up."

Former Manchester United defender Stam is one of several Old Trafford "old boys" -- along with Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes, Steve Bruce, Paul Ince, Gordon Strachan and Gary Neville -- to have gone into management after playing under legendary boss Alex Ferguson.

There was something of the Scot's refusal to get carried away when Stam said: "I keep repeating myself, there's a long way to go.

"We controlled and dominated the first half and scored two great goals," he said of the efforts by Dominic Samuel and Danny Williams that put Reading in charge before John Brayford's own-goal sealed victory.

Ian Holloway started his second spell as Queens Park Rangers manager with a 2-1 win at home to Norwich as the Canaries suffered a fourth straight defeat.

Norwich were a man down as early as the second minute after Martin Olsson received a red card for a deliberate handball on the line.

Tjaronn Chery missed the ensuing penalty but goals for Conor Washington and Sebastian Polter left west London club QPR well-placed before Steven Naismith pulled one back for Norwich in the 78th minute.

Blackburn bounced back from conceding after just 33 seconds to beat Brentford 3-2 while in the late kick-off Britt Assombalonga scored both goals -- including one after just 17 seconds -- as Nottingham Forest defeated Ipswich 2-0 and kept their first clean sheet of the season.

Brighton drew 1-1 with Aston Villa on Friday to move to within two points of leaders Newcastle, who will look to extend their advantage when they travel to Leeds on Sunday.
