Nawaz party MPs compete for key posts

LAHORE: Scores of Pakistan Muslim League-N leaders have submitted their applications to the Prime Minister’s office, hoping to get an opportunity in the likely reshuffle in the federal cabinet and appointments to certain key posts.
The applications coming from across the country have piled up on the table of Javed Aslam, secretary to the prime minister, as Nawaz Sharif is expected to announce the restructuring of the cabinet as well as selecting nominees for a number of important federal offices next week.
The applications even contained priorities and expertise of the aspirants in their relevant fields, an official privy to the development said here yesterday.
This would be a new trend in the political history of the country as people had so far been formally applying for government jobs only.
A central party official, who sought anonymity, admitted that requests in writing by political figures are a departure from the practice of oral pleas.
But, he said, that each political government had to accommodate its workers who could not be given tickets or they lost in electoral bouts.
An aspirant, he added, had to get recommended his application from at least a district level leader, verifying ‘credentials’ of the former and his/her suitability for certain positions.
Meanwhile, the party leaders, who were abroad for the last many weeks, have also returned home and are camping in Islamabad to ensure their timely availability at the earliest in case of a positive decision in their favour.
