DOHA: The emergency unit at the labour health centre in the Industrial Area receives some 4,000 cases every month, mostly related to injuries at work sites, said a source at Qatar Red Crescent which operates the centre.
The source said most injuries are caused due to ignorance about safety and security measures at work sites and urged authorities and companies to ensure workers’ safety.
“Experts at the occupational health monitoring section of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) visited some industries and companies, including carpenters and plastics factories, last week to train doctors at work sites in dealing with injuries to ensure workers’ safety,” Dr Mohammad Ali Al Hajjaj, Head of the section, told Al Watan.
Inspectors of monitoring sections keep visiting companies and industries to ensure safety and security measures are taken, he added.
Meanwhile, a five-day workshop to train health practitioners at labour health centres, Qatar Petroleum, the Ministry of Transport, Qatar Airways and some private companies was held recently.
Some 30 doctors were briefed on the basics of occupational health to reduce cases of injuries.
The trainees were taken to industries to teach them about occupational health risks and work environment.
