NEW DELHI: India Thursday took a step towards mobile telephone number portability with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today releasing a pre-consultation paper on Pan-India Number Portability.
To implement full mobile number portability issues relating to processing of porting requests, routing, charging and testing need to be identified and addressed, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) said today.
Through this pre-consultation paper, the authority is seeking views from stakeholders on various issues involved in successfully introducing number portability.
It is pertinent to note that the State of Qatar had last month introduced mobile telephone number portability which enables subscribers to switch telecom service provider without changing their mobile number.
The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) had announced this decision February 2 after Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service came into effect in Qatar on January 31. (QNA)
