New Delhi: A day ahead of parliament’s budget session, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde yesterday withdrew his “Hindu terrorism” remark that threatened to stall the functioning of the house and was roundly criticised by the BJP and other organisations.
“Since my statement created controversy, I express regret,” Shinde said in a statement.
Meanwhile the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday hoped that parliament’s budget session beginning today would run smoothly.
“This session of parliament is going to transact important financial business before the house and it is our sincere hope that we will have a productive, constructive debate leading to agreed solutions to the many national problems that our country faces,” Manmohan Singh told reporters after an all-party meeting.
Undertrial shot dead, cop injured inside court
New Delhi: An undertrial was shot dead and an escorting Delhi Police constable was injured when two men opened fire in a city court yesterday. One of the attackers has been arrested, police said.
The firing was the outcome of a gang war, police said.
The attack took place in the Rohini court compelx in north Delhi around noon when police presented Naveen, 25, an undertrial in a murder case, in the court for hearing, a police official said.
“Mukesh, 28, a member of Naveen’s rival group, was arrested from the spot. Two country-made pistols used in the crime have been recovered,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police B S Jaiswal. “Some more people may be involved in the crime. Several people are being questioned,” Jaiswal said.IANS
