DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation is embarking on an expansion work for the Al Sadd Children Emergency Center, a senior official said.
The new expansion will involve construction of an extension building with 5 new clinics and 5 patient’s examination rooms and 13 new beds for the in-patients, reported Al Sharq.
Al Sadd Center currently has a capacity of 45 beds that will be increased to 58 once the new building opens, said Dr Hani Khalaf , a pediatric consultant at the hospital.
“Emergency children centers rarely have a large number of beds even in other parts of the world,” he said.
He said that the expansion will also involve increasing on the number of medical staff to keep pace with the increase in a number of patients the center will be receiving.
Children emergency centers in Doha have a large turnout of patients especially in winter periods, they all receive around 2500 to 3000 patients in a day. Al Sadd Center is among the most popular receiving around 1500 patients a day, followed by Al Rayyan Emergency Center receiving around 800 patients a day and the Airport Emergency Center that receives around 500 patients in a day.
HMC emergency children centers received 557,891 patients last year and among these 21,922 patients were referred to the observation rooms for further treatment.
