Zagreb---A seven-year-old boy and his mother were killed and three other children were injured Saturday when a hand grenade exploded at their home in eastern Croatia, police said.
The blast occurred in the victims' house in a village near the eastern town of Osijek, a police spokesman said, adding the woman was 37 years old..
The three injured children -- aged five, eight and nine -- were hospitalised in Osijek but their injuries were not life-threatening, a doctor told reporters.
Police did not disclose details on the incident, but local media reported that it happened when the children found the grenade at a nearby playground and brought it into the house.
Almost 20 years after the end of the 1991-1995 independence war deadly incidents with explosive devices remaining from the conflict still occur in Croatia.
