DOHA: Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) was awarded the ECO-Star Trophy by the CEO of Doha Bank, Dr. R Seetharaman, in “Waste Management Category” on February 17 for successfully completing the project that sought to create awareness among students about the use of waste papers and plastic bottles for planting.

The Eco-School Programme Awards are handed out annually by Doha Bank to recognise schools that play an active role in propagating eco-consciousness amongst students which demonstrate a high degree of innovation and creativity in successfully completing their green projects as part of the Eco-Schools Programme.

A group of students consisting of Fareesha Shahid, Areeba Shahid, Aisha Syed Sulaiman Shah, Fatima Zahid, Zainab Abdullah, Zainab Faqir, Eman Shahid, Ofra, Aiman Tahir, and Anood Asim took part in this project under the supervision of their teacher Ms.Saba Mujeeb.

This project was based upon spreading awareness about the harmful effects of plastic bottles on the environment and human life and their reuse. Different types of plastic bottles like those for water, milk, and juice were collected and cut into appropriate shapes to be used as plant pots. These cut bottles (plant pots) were filled with soil and seedlings of different plants.
