DOHA: Two Qatari photographers are in Brazil for a two-week expedition as part the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture.
In collaboration with the Qatar photographic Society (QPS) and the Ministry of Culture, Qatar Brazil 2014 has sent the Qatari photographers to Brazil to photograph its landscapes, people, culture, and touristic highlights.
The theme of the expedition is to capture the essence of Brazil through Qatari eyes. In turn, two Brazilian photographers will be invited to Qatar to journey across the Arabian Peninsula to experience its history, people, tradition, and culture through Brazilian eyes.
A documentary of their extraordinary experience will be produced capturing behind-the-scenes footage, and the making-of this journey that will lead to a unique visual interpretation of this year’s Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture.
An exhibition showcasing the best pieces will take place in both Qatar and Brazil at the end of the project.
Currently in Rio de Jeneiro for the final phase of the expedition, the team started the first phase in the state of Minas Gerais, where they visited the state capital Belo Horizonte, with its colourful markets and historical squares; and travelled to picturesque towns and villages in neighbouring areas, capturing colonial landmarks, scenic views, iconic buildings and Brazilian street life.
Next on the itinerary was Amazonia. In Belem, as well as exploring the narrow streets of the old city, seeing the local arts and crafts, navigating the Amazon River by boat, and hanging out with the locals and the wildlife, the team managed to find time to learn about samba and speak to the local news station about their trip.
