DOHA: Widam Food on Thursday inaugurated its refurbished automatic abattoirs in Abu Hamour.

Sheikh Nayef bin Eid Al Thani, Chairman of Widam Food and Central Municipal Council (CMC) Chairman Saoud bin Abdullah Al Hanzab attended the event along with senior company officials.

Guests were taken on a tour of the new abattoirs and were given an overview of the major upgrades the unit went through to ensure that customers in Qatar get the finest and best livestock and meat products from the world’s most reputable food resources.

Sheikh Nayef bin Eid Al Thani said: “On behalf of Widam Food, I would like to personally thank our executive management and team who delivered a total quality management approach across the board and we are very proud to be Qatar’s most proficient and adequate organisation in the industry.”

Ahmed Nasser Sraiya Al Kaabi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Widam Food said: “Our completely refurbished abattoir culminates three years of hard work to see a first-class slaughterhouse in the country that abides by the strictest quality and food safety measures. We are extremely proud with what we have accomplished so far as a team and our plans do not stop here.” Widam Food recently bagged the ISO 22000:2005 for Food Safety Management System and 9001:2008 for Quality Management System, both in the sector of meat processing and livestock trading.

This year, Widam Food received another international quality award in Geneva by the Business Initiative Directions for the Platinum Category of Century International Quality Era.

Earlier in 2012, Widam was also recognised at the 16th International Star for Quality in Leadership Convention in France adding another accolade to four other recognitions from MLA Australia for Quality Management.

Al Hanzab said, the refurbished abattoirs will particularly benefit the citizens, who have been demanding it for long.

“CMC is ready to work with Widam to help it provide better services,” he said.

Jassim Al Malki, CMC’s deputy chairman and head of its services committee said the presence of two companies- Hassad and Widam- in the food sector would be beneficial for the customers.

“We need more companies make the market more competitive,” said Al Malki.
