Kahramaa hosts two-day power conference from today

DOHA: The 23rd meeting of the Operations Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) kicks off today. The two- day high level meeting, hosted by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), will gather a number of its senior functionaries headed by Eng. Abdul Azzez Al Hammadi, Electricity System Control’s department manager, and Eng Ahmad Abul Qadir, section head, National Control Centre of Kahramaa.

The event, which will last until tomorrow will have representatives and delegates from all six countries of GCC including GCCIA. The first day of the event will be focused on a workshop to discuss key performance indicators (KPIs) of each member countries concerning power grid-related developments followed by presentations of all participating countries including GCCIA.

The second day of the meeting will address the readiness and other important issues of member countries in view of upcoming peak summer. The operations committee will be headed by Eng Saleh Mohammad Al Onaiza, GCCIA’s Borad Member representing Saudi Arabia. The committee will also analyse the development of power grid system and its challenges in GCC.

The GCC countries generally have similar load patterns, with peak demand occurring in the daytime during the summer months driven primarily by high temperatures and heavy loads.
