Firefighters taking part in the mock fire drill.
Doha: The General Directorate of Civil Defence conducted a mock fire drill at the Ooreedoo building in Matar area on Wednesday.
The drill started with the emission of smoke and a fire outbreak in one of the offices on the second floor of the building. The fire alarm went off and workers and customers in the building were notified through loudspeakers to move to the emergency exit.
Security personnel in the building, which includes a branch of QNB, evacuated it and guided the workers and customers to the safe assembly point. On receiving information about the fire, a firefighting and rescue team from the Old Al Ghanem Civil Defence Centre moved to the site with a fire engine and water tanks.
The firefighting team controlled the mock fire and started a search operation for missing or injured persons.
The exercise was supervised by First Lt Mohammed Sulaiman Al Hammadi, assistant evacuation officer of the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
