28 rebels, six troops killed

Islamabad: At least 28 militants and six security personnel were killed when security forces clashed with the militants in Khyber Agency and FR Kohat, north west of Pakistan, last night. Security forces said that 10 extremists were killed when security personnel battled with the terrorists in Akka Khel area of Bara Tehsil and also destroyed their two hideouts. 

Two security men were also killed during the clashes, Pakistan’s Geo News reported yesterday. 

Eighteen militants have so far been killed in ongoing clashes in Kharmatang area of FR Kohat while Pakistan Air Force fighter jets pounded militant compounds and razed two hideouts.

During the battle, four security men were also killed in FR Kohat. 

Prep school for girls blown up

Islamabad: Unidentified gunmen blew up a preparatory school for girls last night in northwest Pakistan. According to Pakistani police, the gunmen planted explosives in the main gate of a preparatory school for girls located at Hassan Khel area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The bomb went off, destroying two classrooms and partially damaging other parts of the building. No casualties have been reported yet.

Plane lands to save passenger 

ISLAMABAD: Better sense prevailed and a human life was saved, when acrimonies and red tape were set aside, and the Pakistan government allowed a foreign airline flight to make an emergency landing in Karachi to save the life of a seriously ill Indian national. Syed Akbaruddin, a spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, said, “Our officials in Karachi have expressed their gratitude to Pakistani authorities.” According to the Mumbai Mirror, on June 24, Vasant Bodale 76, a resident of Thane, his wife Nalini, 72, and her brother Vijay Phadnis, did not have Pakistani visas, when Pakistani authorities allowed them to disembark in Karachi. Vasant had suffered a severe heart attack and was in a serious condition.
