Istanbul: An oil-drilling installation collapsed in southeastern Turkiye on Sunday, killing one worker and injuring two more, local authorities said.

The accident struck at a drilling site in the Mount Gabar area of the majority-Kurdish Sirnak province.

An engineer was killed after being trapped under the debris, said provincial governor Cevdet Atay who visited the accident site.

Another trapped driller "was rescued immediately after the accident and transferred to hospital by helicopter," Atay's office said on X, while another worker survived with slight injuries.

An investigation into the accident has been opened, it added.

The Turkish Petroleum Corporation began drilling oil in the region in 2022.
