Toronto: Spanish world number two Carlos Alcaraz has announced his withdrawal from the ATP Toronto Open, which will be held in a week.
He joins Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner and Serbian Novak Djokovic, who also announced their withdrawals from the same tournament last Sunday.
Alcaraz said in press statements that he will not participate in the tournament to get some rest before participating in the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam tournament, which will be held from August 24 to September 7.
The organizers of the Toronto Open noted on social media that a number of tennis stars will be absent from the tournament to recover after participating in Wimbledon and prepare for the Flushing Meadows tournament.
World number five Jack Draper of Britain will also miss the Toronto Open due to injury, leaving the tournament without one of the sport's biggest stars.
