Doha: The Qatar national football national team will leave for Casablanca on August 30 to play a friendly against Morocco on September 3.
The Qatari team is preparing for the Gulf Cup of Nations, to be held in Riyadh in November. They are also gearing up for the 2015 AFC Cup of Nations, which will be held in Australia.
Following Morocco’s friendly, the team will head back to Doha to prepare for three more friendlies. The first one will be on September 9 against Peru, followed by matches against Uzbekistan and Australia.
Qatar began its preparation since May 22. The team has so far played Macedonia, Indonesia, A Swiss league select XI and Spanish La Liga side Malaga.
SYDNEY: Four uncapped players were called up to join Australia talisman Tim Cahill yesterday in the Socceroos squad to face Belgium and Saudi Arabia in the build-up to the 2015 Asian Cup.
Brad Smith, Chris Herd, Trent Sainsbury and Bailey Wright were the new faces in a 20-man line-up as coach Ange Postecoglou sought to “broaden the base and depth” of the squad. The team also contains familiar faces in captain Mile Jedinak and 10 others who featured at the World Cup.
The September friendlies, to be played in Liege and London, will build on the Socceroos’ World Cup progress and help prepare them for the Asian Cup to be held in Australia in January.
