AL WAKRAH: Al Wakrah Sports Club have completed a deal with Portuguese player Ruben Amorim, it was announced yesterday.
The deal was signed in the presence of the club’s Head of Football Sheikh Nasser bin Hassan Al Thani, the player’s agent and the local media at the club’s headquarters.
The mid-fielder Amorim said that he wishes to succeed in his first experience outside of Europe and that he looks forward to fulfilling the targets set by his new club.
Amorim represented Portugal in two World Cups. His style is similar to countryman Tiago, with both playing the same position, operating in central midfield, both defensive and offensive. Sheikh Nasser said: “We hope that Amorim will bolster the team during the coming season. We signed Amorim based on the recommendation from our head coach Jose Mauricio.”
“Mauricio had made an agreement with the Argentinean Gaston Sangoy to undergo an assessment period, during which the head coach was not satisfied with his performance. So Sangoy’s contract was terminated by mutual consent. We have also signed Maher Youssef and Mohamed Mallallah.”
Sheikh Nasser praised the squad’s preparations, adding that the team has performed well in the pre-season friendlies in Italy.
