Washington: Meta is planning to launch a web version of its micro-blogging platform Threads, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The report said that the web version will be launched soon. However, the newspaper quoted its sources as saying that the launch plans are not final and may change.

Earlier this month, CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg said that the company is working to make the web version of Threads available in addition to improving the search feature within the platform, and Zuckerberg promised at the time that it would be available within a few weeks.

"We've been using an early version internally for a week or two. Still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone though," Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri added in a post last week.

Threads witnessed a wide turnout from users during the first days of its launch, as the number of its users exceeded 100 million in less than a week, before the number of active users declined, and interaction decreased sharply later.

Threads can currently only be used on mobile devices through the free app that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.

The web version of the platform will work through a web browser, so access to accounts on the platform will be available across different computers.
