NEW DELHI: US billionaire Bill Gates will dine with some of country’s wealthiest people this weekend in a bid to encourage them to give more to charity. The gathering will be hosted by tycoon Azim Premji, founder of Wipro and one of India’s biggest donors. Rich Indians gave an average 3.1 percent of their income to charitable causes in 2011. The tech tycoon, who is on a trip to India with his wife Melinda, said this week in New Delhi that he did not believe it was a good idea for the rich to leave a lot of money to their children.
IAF jet crash lands in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: An Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft with 11 people on board crash landed at the Chandigarh airport yesterday, The aircraft, which was coming back from Jammu and Kashmir, broke into three portions as it crash landed and caught fire. The incident took place around 8.40pm. People on board the aircraft suffered minor burn injuries and were safely evacuated. The exact cause of the fire was not yet known. The IAF has ordered a probe into the incident.
Chinese troops in intrusion anew
New Delhi/Leh: Yet another intrusion by Chinese soldiers in Indian territory has been reported with around 50 troops entering the Chumar area of Ladakh. According to army sources, Chinese soldiers withdrew from Chumar late on Thursday, only to return after few hours on Friday. Chumur is located more than 300km northeast of Leh and borders Himachal Pradesh.
