New Delhi: A court here yesterday framed defamation charges against former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and three others in a case filed by former union minister Kapil Sibal’s son Amit. Metropolitan Magistrate Sunil Kumar Sharma framed the charges against Kejriwal, former Delhi minister Manish Sisodia, Aam Aadmi Party leader Prashant Bhushan and former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi. The case was filed by Amit Sibal after Kejriwal, during a press conference in 2013, alleged conflict of interest over his appearing in the Supreme Court for telecom major Vodafone while his father was the union communication minister. The court set January 17, 2015 for commencing the recording of statement of witness in the case after the four leaders pleaded not guilty.
Gold price dips below Rs27,000
New Delhi: Buyers of jewellery may have a reason to cheer as gold prices dipped to the lowest level since July last year, just a few days ahead of the festive season. Gold prices dipped below Rs27,000 per 10 grammes yesterday with the yellow metal trading around Rs26,970 per 10 grammes here. Pankaj Parekh, vice-chairman, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, said: “The price might go further down.” In Delhi, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity dropped by Rs40 to Rs26,970 and Rs26,770 per 10 grammes respectively.
Mandarin Chinese course in JNU soon
New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will soon start a course in Mandarin Chinese under its school of language, literature and culture studies, a Taiwanese official said yesterday. “We have already recruited teacher to teach Mandarin Chinese and by October the course will start,” Yi-Ta Chen, secretary of Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, said. Mandarin Chinese is already being taught in Jamia Millia Islamia.
BJP wins by-poll in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: The BJP’s Bhojraj Nag yesterday won the Antagarh assembly by-poll in Chhattisgarh. Nag won by over 51,000 votes in the by-election that was held on September 13. There were only two candidates in the fray, Nag and Rupdhar Pudo of the Ambedkarite Party of India. The election was necessitated as BJP legislator Vikram Usendi quit the seat after he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kanker constituency.
