College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) hosted Family Day – a 10th Birthday Event in celebration of the college’s ‘Decade of Excellence’ – in the Museum of Islamic Art Park from 10am to 5pm. The event featured a full day of festivities for the entire family, and drew some 2,500 people.
“Family Day is our way of including the entire Qatar community in our celebration of CNA-Q’s ‘Decade of Excellence,’” said Dr Ken MacLeod, President, CNA-Q. “This is a special day where our talented faculty and staff, our students and their families, our business partners, who are so generous with their time and expertise, and the wider community, which has embraced our mission of creating a skilled workforce and future leaders for Qatar, has all come together to celebrate our ten-year journey to becoming Qatar’s premier technical college.”
Activities for children were everywhere with booths devoted to face-painting, henna, balloon artistry, and ‘bouncy castles’. A giant moose mascot made frequent trips throughout the park to greet youngest visitors.
CNA-Q students and staff performed on a stage in the centre of the Park. The entertainment kicked off with traditional Qatari dances, and was followed by CNA-Q staff member Curtis Avery’s band, Palestinian Debka dancers, the college’s Indian Dance Team, hip hop artists, student bands ‘Saturday is Enough’ and Kwan, and original music by CNA-Q staff member Dave Doucette.
The event also presented a opportunity to learn more about technical programmes offered by the college. A highlight of the Day was the three-meter-long 10th Anniversary Birthday Cake around which guests gathered to sing “Happy Birthday” in a salute to ten years of CNA-Q successes.
Family Day was the second of six 10th Anniversary events promising a year full of CNA-Q festivities. Festivities will conclude with a 10th Anniversary Gala in May.The Peninsula
