Doha: Oxford University Press (OUP) has announced that over 9,000 monograph titles are available for free to citizens and residents, including content from 17 major university presses alongside OUP’s scholarly monographs.
As a department of the University of Oxford, OUP furthers its mission of excellence in education, scholarship, and research by publishing worldwide. The agreement with Qatar National Library (QNL) makes available OUP’s highest level monograph content and high quality monograph content from other university presses to students, lecturers, researchers and interested readers in Qatar.
A vast and rapidly-expanding online research database, University Press Scholarship Online, brings together the best scholarly publishing from around the world, aggregating scholarly content from leading university presses.
QNL, under Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, aims to spread knowledge, nurture imagination, cultivate creativity, and preserve the nation’s heritage for the future. It also aims to promote a culture of excellence and furthers its role in supporting an innovative and open society that aspires to develop sustainable human capacity, social, and economic prosperity for a knowledge-based economy.
“OUP has been working with QF and QNL for years, and we are delighted that the two institutions that share many similar goals in terms of furthering excellence in research and scholarship have been able to support the academic community in Qatar. OUP and QNL will continue to support and train individuals and libraries to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from having access to this content,” said Graham Grant, Head of Library Sales, Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Dr Claudia Lux, Project Director, QNL, said: “Our approach is different from that of other libraries. We are prioritising the creation of a digital information collection so that it can be used across the country. With its big monographs package, OUP is providing valuable information source to expand the Qatari knowledge society.”
