DOHA: Locally made Search and Rescue drones are among the latest technologies that the Ministry of Interior is showcasing this week at the Milipol exhibition at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
The drone with a battery charge of about 20 to 30 minutes, is already being used by the Ministry to take pictures from above in mostly fire related accidents to ensure timely rescue operations, said Mohammed Salem Al Mannai, an exhibitor from the Ministry.
“Its photographic sensor is capable of providing good images for both day and night,” he said.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister, H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, inaugurated the three-day exhibition yesterday under the auspices of  the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
He said  that Milipol Qatar was a result of cooperation between Qatar’s Ministry of Interior and France.
The exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm until tomorrow.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazaneuve was present. He said Milipol exhibition was a different one as it is alternatively held in Doha and Paris.
He said that French companies have been allowed to present their developments in security at all levels as a symbol of technological progress that the two countries want to achieve in the field of security.
The 10th edition of the exhibition covers more than 6,000sqm with some 261 companies from 36 countries exhibiting their latest products, which shows a growth of about seven percent from last year’s 244 exhibitors, according to Brigadier Nasser bin Fahad Al Thani, Chairman of Milipol Committee.
“Milipol is the only exhibition in the Middle East specialising in Internal Security,” he said. “There are several latest products that are entering the market for the first time in order to meet the requirements of the security agencies.”
The exhibition has six international pavilions — Italy, Britain, Brazil, France, Germany, Austria and North America. The biggest pavilion according to area covered is North American which is 231sqm  while the British pavilion has the largest number of companies with 24 firms.
Brigadier Nasser said that Qatar Rail was one of the local companies participating for the first time and one garnering a lot of interest as it was undertaking the construction of metro rail.
Qatar Rail will need surveillance cameras and other security devices to secure different railway stations and Milipol Qatar is providing them a good opportunity to interact with other companies in the field of security logistics.
The Milipol 2014 is displaying latest technological advancements in terms of products and services.
Participants and exhibitors from local and international solutions providers are covering a wide range of fields that include transmissions, communications and tracking; authentication, access control and surveillance systems; corporate and media; and information technology.
