MOSCOW: A blast in the volatile North Caucasus region of Dagestan on Wednesday killed three people, including two policemen, as they examined the premises of a building hit by an explosion earlier in the day.
An explosion went off early Wednesday near the empty building of a former bank in the Dagestani village of Shamilkala, the regional interior ministry said in a statement.
When police began examining the premises a second explosive device went off, killing three.
"According to preliminary information, two employees of law enforcement agencies and one civilian died on the spot, and there are also wounded," regional police said in a statement.
Double blasts are a popular tactic of Islamist militants that allows them to cause maximum casualties among the security forces.
The Muslim region sees near daily attacks that officials blame on militants seeking to establish an Islamic state across the Russian Caucasus. (AFP)
