DOHA: Bahrain yesterday sent its ambassador back to Qatar, after Saudi Arabia returned its envoy last Tuesday.
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE had recalled their ambassadors early in March this year following a diplomatic rift. The row was resolved at a meeting of GCC leaders in Riyadh on November 16.
Waheed Mubarak Sayyar was welcomed at the ministerial arrival lounge at Hamad International Airport by Ibrahim Fakhro, Head of Protocol Department, the Foreign Ministry. The Bahraini embassy’s website confirmed the return of Sayyar and quoted him as saying: “It’s a great pleasure to be back among my family and brothers in the sisterly state of Qatar”. He said his job was to further cement relations. Sayyar said the Riyadh meeting had opened a new chapter in the relations among the GCC states. He said that keeping in view challenges facing the region and changes taking place, the Riyadh meet will help boost GCC security and stability.

Al Sharq, meanwhile, reported that the UAE had appointed Nasser Al Amri as its new ambassador to Qatar. The daily didn’t provide details.
Sayyar also praised the GCC leaders for their commitment to the region’s unity and opening a new chapter of ties among member states. “We, as GCC people, have to praise the valuable role played by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, in concluding the historic accord of Riyadh Consultative Summit that meets aspirations and hopes of the GCC people and supports the legitimate Arab and Islamic causes,” Sayyar was quoted as saying by the website.
He said GCC citizens also appreciate continuous and sincere efforts of the Emir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah to boost GCC solidarity for the sake of common progress and success of its people. The Peninsula
