DOHA: The Sheikh Eid Charity Association marked the National Day in a different way by distributing surplus food collected from parties and banquets held on the day to low-income expatriate workers and needy families.
The organisation distributed a total of 19,600 food packets to 1,000 needy families and 700 expatriate labourers.
All the families who received food had been registered with the charity and were receiving regular support from the organisation.
The project was part of an innovative scheme launched by the organisation recently that aims to make use of surplus food from wedding parties and banquets for the benefit of the needy.
The food distributed on the National Day included rice, meat, chicken, vegetable and dates. People from more than 30 areas across Doha, Al Khor and Wakra benefited from the project.
