DOHA: President of the Republic of Ecuador Rafael Correa received Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of Ezdan Holding Group(EHG) at the presidential palace in the capital de Quito. The meeting was also attended by the Ecuadorian Vice-President Jorge Glas.
The President and Sheikh Dr Khalid discussed investment opportunities available in the Republic of Ecuador and the potential of private sector in both the countries in terms of promoting investment projects that could pose a qualitative addition to the cooperation between private sectors like real estate, tourism, banking, insurance and medical sectors, in both the countries.
The Vice-President Jorge Glas praised the aspirations of Qatari investors and welcomed Qatari private sector to Ecuador.
The President hailed the close bilateral relations between both countries, stating that such relationship is a good model of what could be a relationship between any of the Latin American countries and Qatar. He expressed his pleasure in receiving Sheikh Dr Khalid and his accompanying delegation. The President said his government will provide all facilities and privileges to ensure the success of any Qatari investment in Ecuador.
Sheikh Dr Khalid said the visit to Ecuador was aimed at finding investment opportunities and studying the Ecuadorian market. Latin America is an important market for Qatar, where excellent investment opportunities can be available. He urged both parties to increase the volume of trade exchange between the Qatari business community and its Ecuadorian counterpart, and elevate joint cooperation to meet the aspirations of both countries leaderships.
During the visit, Sheikh Dr Khalid met with many dignitaries and officials in Ecuador, including the Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino and Minister of Finance Fausto Herrera, Minister of Tourism Freddy Ehlers and President of the Central Bank Carlos Vallejo, in addition to a panel of business leaders and representatives of the private sector and major companies in Ecuador. Besides ambassador of Ecuador to Qatar Kabalan Abi Saab, among those who accompanied Sheikh Dr. Khalid include Abdulbasit Al Shabei, CEO, QIIB; Ali Al Obaidli, CEO Ezdan Holding Group (EHG); Abdul Rahman Al-Abdul Ghani, Qatar Islamic Insurance Company; Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of International Company for Investment; Jaber Al Harmi, Editor-in-Chief of Al Sharq and Walid Al Saadi, Board Member of Medicare Group.
Doha was the first city in the Middle East where the Ecuador has opened an embassy in 2012, followed by the opening of the Embassy of Qatar in the Ecuadorian capital. Many Qatari businessmen and investors seek to establish a presence in the Ecuadorian market, and take advantage of the facilities and investment possibilities provided by the Government of Ecuador to foreign capitals and funds.
