Doha: The Workforce Department at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has organised an open professional day for the banking sector to provide job opportunities for Qatari males and females who hold secondary school certificates and university degrees and those who have experience.
The day, which also aims at providing opportunities for scholarships and training, was attended by 12 leading banks in Qatar. The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs H E Dr Abdullah Saleh Al Khulaifi, who attended the event, said it showcases Qatar’s interest in the banking sector, which is an important part of the national economy.
He highlighted the ministry’s efforts towards the private sector, including the regulation of the labour market and finding jobs for Qataris in the banking sector.
He also referred to close cooperation between the public and private sectors with regard to finding work permits for bank employees according to the labour law and coordination between national applicants and job offers in the private sector. The Minister said high competition between banks was due to several reasons, the most important being the strong economic growth enjoyed by Qatar in the past 10 years, large-scale infrastructure projects and investments within the state and abroad, which contributed to the growth of the banking sector and the growth of banks’ annual budgets.
He said the banking sector is competitive and requires staff with special kills.
The ministry is working in coordination with other ministries to find citizens who have necessary scientific qualifications, he added. QNA
