DOHA: Katara is set to launch a plastic art forum which will host artists specialised in arabesque, sculpture and ceramics.
The symposium is one of the initiatives of Katara to create suitable environment for culture and art innovations as part of the recently launched Katara strategy.
Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said with the launch of this forum, Katara shows support for this particular segment of artists, addressing social issues expressed in artworks.
“We need such events to bring together artists and provide facilities to develop the arts. Katara will provide Qatari and Arab artists living here with necessary support they need within the capacity of Katara,” he said. He added Katara seeks to realize a pioneering vision in art and culture through activities it is hosting.
The aim of the forum is to activate plastic art activities in Qatar and contribute in solving the challenges and difficulties they are facing. Qatar National Vision 2030 stresses the role of art in development and in expressing the values, traditions and customs of the Qatari society.
In addition, the forum aims to strengthen ties among artists in the GCC and other Arab countries opening to international art and participating in different events and art festivals and organizing conferences and spearheading researches.
He also said the forum will give a chance to young artists to present their innovative artworks, gain experiences and build their capacities.
This symposium would be a good opportunity for the artists to evaluate their works and get feedback from other artists and intellectuals and a chance for Qatari art to be introduced internationally.
