DOHA: An Indian salesman of a supermarket in Bin Omran area was severely injured when he was hit by a speeding car in a freak accident on Tuesday afternoon.
The CCTV footage of the accident went viral on the social media yesterday.
The man remains admitted at the Hamad General Hospital and is expected to undergo a surgery today on his right leg, according to a source at the supermarket.
The video shows an SUV parked infront of the supermarket accelerating suddenly and hitting the man who was arranging newspapers in a rack.
The footage shows another man in Qatari dress, apparently the car’s driver, rushing to stop the car, only to be thrown away by the front door that was left open by the impact of the collision. The car came to a halt after it hit the supermarket wall, badly damaging the front of the car.
The incident happened at 1.31pm as shown in the video.
A woman in the car, apparently the driver’s wife, was also taken to the hospital, according to the sources.
The supermarket named Taif is located near Town Center in Bin Omran. “We called the police immediately after the incident and the police came, along with the ambulance team,” a salesman at the supermarket told this daily last evening.
The injured man and the woman in the car were rushed to the hospital in two ambulances, he said.
“His right leg was fractured and a surgery is expected to be conducted tomorrow,” said the salesman. The victim who hails from the southern Indian state of Kerala has been working with the supermarket for several years, he added.
Social networking sites were abuzz with news and comments on the incident yesterday, with people giving varying opinions on how the parked car accelerated apparently in the absence of a driver. The Peninsula
