DOHA: The State Cabinet yesterday approved a draft decision to set up a special committee to examine requests from citizens for marrying foreigners. In its regular meeting yesterday the Cabinet approved the draft law amending some provisions of law No. 21 of 1989 regulating the marriage of citizens to foreigners.
The cabinet also agreed to refer the draft law to the Advisory Council for its recommendations. The meeting at Emiri Diwan was chaired by the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani,
According to the amendment, the Council of Ministers will issue a decision on forming a committee that examines requests for marrying foreigners. The amendment also sets the committee’s remuneration. A draft decision by the Council of Ministers establishing the said committee was also approved by the Cabinet yesterday.
The bill provides for forming a committee for studying requests for marriage to foreigners. Two representatives of the Ministry of Interior will be appointed as the chair and deputy chair of the committee.
